Fondant Feather Tutorial
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make fondant feathers like the ones used on the top tier of this orange and black tufted billow weave cake. Though I made ostrich feathers here, the same technique can be used to make other types of feathers.
TOOLS:
(1) Rolling Pin
(2) Pizza Wheel
(3) Sharp Blade or X-acto Knife
(4) Paint Brush
(5) Floral Wires
(6) Fondant Wheel
(7) Cooling/Drying Rack
(8) Pot of Boiling Water or Steamer
EDIBLE COMPONENTS
(1) Fondant
(2) Black Color Paste
(3) Black Luster Dust
PROCEDURE:
(1) Roll out black fondant into a quarter of a centimeter thickness.
(2) Use a pizza wheel to cut out feather shapes.
(3) Pass floral wires into the middle of the feathers. They should get up to about 3/4 way up the feathers.
(4) Use a sharp blade to frill the edges of the feathers.
(5) Use a fondant wheel to make the middle vein and blend the frills with the center of the feathers.
(6) Place the feathers on the drying rack to dry. Fan out some of the frills and curve the top a bit before leaving them to dry.
(7) When they are dry, use a brush to brush some black luster dust on the feathers.
(8) Steam the feathers over a pot of boiling water or with a steamer for a few seconds to set the luster dust. Leave the feathers to dry completely before using.

Thanks Constance. I appreciate your love and support.
Terry please I’m in a fix as I write. My fondant is melting. Already done with the cake but am scared if it will keep till tomorrow. Please help somehow. Thanks
It might be due to the combination of heat and humidity. Try keeping the cake in the fridge.
Thanks indeed . You are a teacher.
