The Making of Lego Chima Jigsaw Puzzle Cake
In this post, I will be showing you how I made this Lego Chima Jigsaw Puzzle Cake. This cake was a learning experience for me and I am excited to share my results and acquired knowledge with you. When making a cake like this, think about colors that pop for that is where this cake gets most of its beauty from. To read more about this cake and see several views of it, click here.
THE PROCESS:
(1) The first thing you need to do is create the jigsaw puzzle topper. The puzzle here features Laval who is a main character in the animation series. I have a tutorial here on how I made it. This can be made a few days ahead of time.
(2) Next, cover the cake board with fondant. I added some red puzzles on the cake board to tie it to the topper on the cake.
(3) Next, drape an 8 inch square cake with yellow fondant and transfer it to the prepared cake board. I use melted white chocolate to stick the cake card to the cake board.
(4) Next, roll out yellow fondant the same height as the cake and long enough to wrap around the cake. Use a fondant wheel/embosser to make horizontal lines about one inch apart on the fondant and wrap it around the cake. Brush the cake with water or vodka before wrapping with fondant. I brushed the entire cake with vodka when I was done to make it glossy.
(5) Next, place the prepared jigsaw puzzle topper on the cake.
(6) Next, create cuffs with grey fondant by wrapping strips of grey fondant around a cylindrical object and leaving them to dry. The cuffs were brushed with silver luster dust mixed with vodka after they were placed on the cake. The cuffs are supposed to mimic Laval’s hands in the animation series.
(7) Finally cut out circles and lightening patterns from red fondant and stick these to the body of the cake. Do not forget to wrap the cake board with a ribbon when you are done. That’s all there is to it. Happy Baking!
