Fondant Phone Tutorial

This is a tutorial on how to make a phone out of fondant like the one in this Avatar: the Last Airbender cake. It is a very straightforward process and takes less than 30 minutes to execute.

TOOLS:

(1) Rolling Pin

(2) Pizza Cutter or Sharp Blade

(3) Paint Brush

(4) Ruler

EDIBLE COMPONENTS:

(1) Fondant. I use Marshmallow Fondant

(2) Silver Luster Dust

(3) Black and Grey Color Paste

(4) Corn Syrup

(5) Vodka

PROCEDURE:

(1) Color your fondant black and roll it out into about 5 mm thickness.

(2) Use a ruler and pizza cutter to cut it into a rectangle the size of a phone.

(3) Use the pizza cutter to shape the edges into curves.

(4) Color some fondant grey and cut it into thin strips the same height as the phone.

(6) Stick the grey fondant strip around the phone with some vodka.

(7) Mix some vodka with silver luster dust and color the grey part of the phone. Use the end of a small paint brush to poke 2 holes at the top part of the phone.

(8) Mix a teaspoon of vodka with a teaspoon of corn syrup and flood the black surface of the phone with the mixture.

(9) Leave his to dry overnight before using. Connect ear phones to it using white fondant for a more realistic look.

This same method can be used to make ipod players. Simply put a case round it like I did with this running shoe cake.

For the phone screen, I used a mixture of vodka and corn syrup. The gloss is from the corn syrup. I used only vodka on the shoes.
