Landscape Painted Cake
As a baker, one thing I absolutely love to do is paint on cakes and I try to do this at every given opportunity. When making this 2 tier cake, I decided it was going to be a painted cake since I had free rein on the design. I eventually settled for a landscape painting with a water fall cascading down a hill to a lush green valley. This cake is unique and is one I would treasure for a very long time.
Below are the various stages of the creation of this cake. I started off with a white canvass (draped both tiers with white fondant) and painted on the cake using color paste thinned out with vodka. The cake was painted on a wooden surface before being transferred to the cake board. This was to prevent the cake board from getting stained. You will also notice that this cake has no boarders on the bases. Your fondant draping has to be perfect as there is no way of hiding wrinkles or folds at the base of the cake. Of course it helps that each tier is only about 3 inches high.
