Lion in a Jungle Baby Shower Cake
This is a simple cake which I made for a baby shower. The call came in at the very last minute and since the decor was going to be jungle themed, I decided to move with the flow. The cake is an 8 inch chocolate butter cake frosted with chocolate buttercream. All the design work was done with marshmallow fondant.
The lion is of course the star of this cake. I have a pictorial here on how to make this lion topper.
On the body of this cake is a zebra print pattern. Instead of going with the regular white and black pattern, I decided to go with sky blue for a softer look. A tutorial on how to make zebra prints with fondant can be found here.
Since the expected baby was a boy, I created a sign in front of the cake which read “boy oh boy.” Messages like these are a lot more creative than the regular “it’s a boy” message.
