The Making of a Wooden Flower Box Cake
This is a wooden flower box cake filled with lovely flowers. You can read more about this cake here. The steps below document how this cake was made.
THE PROCESS
(1) As with most of my cakes, I covered the cake with a first layer of fondant to seal it. This technique gives me an even ad clean surface to work with. Being a first functional covering, I really do not care much about the fondant tearing or having elephant ears.
(2) The next step was to cover the side of the cake with a second layer of white fondant with ridges. This is the start of the wooden look.
(3) The cake was also placed on a cake board designed to look like wood. The technique for this can be found here.
(4) Next, I painted the sides of the cake to give it a wooden box look.
(5) Next, horizontal panels were added to the top and bottom of the cake. They were broken in places to give the cake more effects. The cake was also “filled” with leftover cake crumbs which acted as sand. This can also be done with brown sugar (That would be a lot of sugar on a cake though).
(6) Finally, the flowers and leaves were added to the cake. The flowers were made before hand and left to dry.
Similar flowers like those above were also used in this Yellow Bridal Shower Cake below:
The technique above was also used in a Panda Family Baby Shower Cake
