Tree Stump Halloween Cake
I was excited when a friend asked me to make a Halloween cake for a group of kids. I had never made one before and while I wanted to stick to the Halloween theme, I did not want to scare the kids. While I was thinking about what type of cake to make, my mind went to my Party on a Tree Stump cake and that inspired the design for this cake.
The cake is made up of a Butter Chocolate Cake frosted with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. All the design work was done with marshmallow fondant.
This is one cake where I used the cake board extensively. On the seemingly chaotic cake board are dried maple leaves representing fall, 3 pumpkin fruits, chocolate marbles, spider webs and a giant black spider.
The spiders are actually the scare elements of this cake and were the last component to be added on the cake. They were made out of marshmallow fondant. Do you notice those creepy eyes stirring at the spider? Creepy!!!!!
A tutorial on how the pumpkins were made can be found here.
I initially wanted to leave the trunk bare but later on decided to give it a spooky face with a scar on the top right side.
Happy Halloween.
How do you make the pumpkins?
I mold them by hand into balls, use an indenting tool to make the lines/depression on the sides and use green fondant for the stalk.
