3D Conifer Trees
Trees are a common fixture on cakes with natural themes. Though it is more common to make use of two dimensional trees, 3D trees are a lot more impressive. This is a simple tutorial on how to make 3D Conifer trees.
TOOLS:
(1) A Pair of Scissors
(2) Lolly Pop Sticks Or Skewers
INGREDIENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Green Color Paste
PROCEDURE
(1) Color fondant green.
Note: fondant can also be colored white for Christmas trees or fall colors for a fall themed cake.
(2) Shape fondant into a slender cone.
(3) Pierce base of cone with lolly pop stick. This is for better control of the cone. Helps you turn the cone around with ease. It will also prevent you from handling the cone with your hands, thereby indenting it.
(4) Use scissors to cut into cone starting from the top of the cone. Turn the cone around using the lolly pop stick for ease. The incisions should be made in rows with each row having about 3 to 10 incisions, increasing as you get to the bottom of the cone. The incisions in the cone should also be deep but not deep enough to chop off portions of the cone. They should also touch each other.
(5) Continue to make incisions down the cone until you get to the base of the cone. Take off lolly pop stick and allow cone to dry standing up. Some times the cone might tilt to a side when drying. Be sure to straighten it as it dries if the need arises.
Post Note: You can also make tree stumps for the cones by making brown stumps and allowing them to dry before sticking them to the base of the cones.
