Door Mat Cake
This is a door mat on a door step cake made for a housewarming. When I initially pitched the idea to the person who wanted the cake, she was not sold. I however told her to trust me to make it turn out great. She loved it!
The cake is a Red Velvet Cake frosted with Cream Cheese Frosting. The design work on the cake was made with Marshmallow Fondant.
The door mat was made before hand by layering various cuts of marshmallow fondant. In the picture below, the mat is shown on a fondant marbled tile cake board (Tutorial here). There is also a cute mouse which was made for the cake but didn’t make it to the final cake.
On the left side of the cake is a snail crawling up the door step. It us made entirely of marshmallow fondant.
On the right side of the cake is a colony of ladybugs on the ground, climbing the door step and on the door mat. A tutorial on how to make these can be found here.
Finally, there are pebbles on the cake board which are made of chocolate. Scattered around the cake board and the cake itself are dead brown leaves. There is also an acorn on the ground.
