Messy Bed Cake

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is an interesting cake for a 11 year old teenager. I was given the liberty to do whatever I wanted to do and so I decided to have some fun.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The cake is a 7 by 12 inch French Vanilla Sponge frosted with Vanilla Buttercream and decorated with Marshmallow Fondant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is one cake that involved a lot of layering. You can read more about how this cake was made here. The top layer was initially covered with cream matted fondant to make it look like a mattress. The mattress was placed on a bed frame (bottom layer)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The mattress was later covered with blue bed sheet with matching pillows. One of the pillows is on the floor. I tried to make the bed sheet as messy as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A 3 colored duvet was placed on the bed sheet with some parts of it touching the floor. Though the duvet covered a lot of the bed sheet, I believe each layer has to be right for the look to work.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Finally various items of clothing were scattered all over the bed and rug. I also threw in basket ball, a book, a laptop, a baseball cap and a rolled up cord. I tried to make them all appear as random as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The cake board was covered with fondant to make it look like wooden floor. This is a variation of my wooden floor cake board. On top of the wooden floor is a dirty red shaggy rug. I was excited when this worked out. Its always great to learn or develop a new technique.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The head board of the bed was made a couple of days in advance so it had time to dry out.
