Fondant Marble Tile Floor
One way of making your cakes stand out is by being creative with your cake boards. The options are limitless. One new method of covering cake board I created is by making them look like tiles. This is a tutorial on how to achieve marbled tiles look using fondant. For a general tutorial on how I cover my cake boards, click here.
TOOLS:
(1) A Cake Board
(2) Rolling Pin
(3) Fondant Roller or any Indentation Tool
(4) Paint Brush
(5) Fondant Smoother
(6) Ruler
INGREDIENTS:
(1) Fondant (I use Marshmallow Fondant)
(2) Black Color Paste
(3) Water or Vodka
(4) Shortening (Optional)
(5) Icing Sugar for Rolling Fondant
PROCEDURE:
(1) Cut out a third of your white fondant and color grey with some black food color.
(2) Roll out the white and grey fondant into logs and place side by side.
(3) Now start the process of twisting and folding. This is done by twisting the two logs together to make spirals and folding the spiral log. This process should be repeated about 5 times or until you are satisfied with the result.
(4) Do a final fold and begin rolling out your fondant with a rolling pin. Apply some icing sugar to your work surface so the fondant does not stick to it.
(5) Brush your cake board with a little bit of water and cover with fondant. Smooth fondant surface with fondant smoother.
(6) Trim off the edges of your cake board.
(7) To make the board glossy, you can rub some shortening on it.
(8) Using a ruler and your fondant wheel, divide the cake board into square tiles.
(9) Color the grooves between each tile with black food color.
