How to Cook Quinoa
Quinoa is a grain crop grown primarily for its seeds. Quinoa comes in a variety of colors such as white, cream, red and black. It is not a true cereal and is closely related to plants like beetroots and spinach. It is gluten free and very high in protein. The taste of this nutritious seed however does not appeal to everyone. This is a tutorial on how to make quinoa very tasty and enjoyable by everyone.
INGREDIENTS:
(1) 1 Cup of Quinoa
(2) 2 Cups of Broth. (Learn how to make your own broth here)
(3) A Sprig of your favorite Herb (I use Thyme)
Note: When cooking quinoa, use the ration 1:2. That is 1 part quinoa and 2 parts liquid.
PROCEDURE:
(1) Bring broth to boil in a medium sized pot.
(2) Rinse quinoa. Place quinoa in a fine strainer and rinse under cold water. Allow water to drain.
(3) Put rinsed quinoa in boiling broth, add herb, reduce heat to medium and allow to cook for 5 to 8 minutes or until all the broth has been absorbed.
(4) Turn off heat and let quinoa stand covered in pot for 10 minutes.
(5) After 10 mins, use a fork to fluff quinoa.
Your quinoa is ready to be eaten as a side or used in a salad.
