White Picket Fence Cake with Daisy Bush and Bumblebee
This is a “just because” cake meaning the person who asked for it just wanted a cake for no particular occasion. After about a week of thinking about concepts (and changing ideas ever so often) I finally settled for this design. This is a white picket fence cake with a full daisy bush and a cute Bumblebee in motion.
The cake itself is a 4 layer 8 inch pound cake frosted with vanilla buttercream. All of the designs were made with marshmallow fondant.
The cake was first of all draped with sky blue fondant. The base was later covered with a 1.5 inch green border.
The pieces for the fence are about 3 inches high and were made a day prior. They are each 1 centimeter wide. I used a total of 32 of these rods for the cake. White horizontal strips were first placed on the cake before the white vertical pieces were placed. Each piece is 1 centimeter apart from the other. I also placed a couple of flat daisies on the cake before placing the fence. This will give the illusion that some daisies are behind the fence.
To make the daisy bush, I made some large daisies a couple of days before making the cake. I also made some daisy buds and smaller daisies just to give some variation. A tutorial on how to make these flowers can be found here.
Before placing the flowers on the cake, I made some stalks and long leaves using some dark green fondant.
Next I placed the various at strategic locations on the cake to make it look like a full daisy bush.
Finally, I placed the cherry on the cake: a beautiful bumblebee in motion. A tutorial for this bumblebee can be found here.
This is a cake I will be loving for a very long time.
