Quilted Bunny Cake
I was asked to make a birthday cake for a two year old girl. Her birthday fell during the Easter weekend and my task was then to give the cake an Easter theme. It was also an opportunity to try out a new quilting technique.
This cake is a 9 inch round strawberry sponge cake with strawberry flavored buttercream frosting. The decorations were made entirely of marshmallow fondant.
The blue and pink bunnies on top of the cake gave it the Easter feel I was gunning for, I have a tutorial on how to make fondant bunnies here.
I decided to make some ruffles on top of the cake. On an after thought, I decided to add some little pink hearts to the ruffles to make it more “girly” and interesting.
What I was most excited about was the quilted sides. This was my first time quilting a cake and I am glad it came out well. I used some pink pearls to finish the quilted design.
On top of the cake is a small banner wishing the celebrant a happy birthday and the number two for her age.
This is quite a lovely cake any little princess would love.
Hello Terry,
Can I have a link on how this cake was made. I can’t find it above. Thanks as always.
Hi. Unfortunately I made this cake before I started doing cake tutorials. You can however find a link for the bunnies here and for the diamond pattern on the side of the cake here.
