Bubble Guppies & Ariel Cake
Sometimes, when faced with a cake challenge, you have to carry out some research in order to understand the task ahead. This cake found me watching Bubble Guppies over and over again in order to know what the characters were and their temperaments. This was originally a Bubble Guppies cake but due to a shortage in Bubble Guppies supplies in a party supply store, we had to incorporate Ariel into the cake and make it a Bubble Guppies and Ariel Cake.
This is a 2 tier cake made of French vanilla sponge and filled with vanilla butter cream. The top tier is 8 inches wide while the bottom tier is 10 inches wide. Both tiers are about 5 inches high each.
I started making the characters for this cake about 2 weeks before the actual cake was made. The characters had a lot of details and I had to ensure that the guppies were properly represented. The characters were made with fondant. Deema, the lady with that elaborate yellow hairdo was the most challenging to make. Due to the size of the characters and the inclusion of Ariel, I made only 6 out of the 8 Bubble Guppies Characters. I contemplated removing Mr Grouper (The large fish topper) at the last minute but was told not to as he seems to be a big deal.
The cake was covered in blue marshmallow fondant and water details were added with a darker blue color. Don’t mind that there are 3 cakes below. One of the cakes was used for the Under the Sea Cake.
The top tier was supported with lolly pop sticks. These held the cake in place and made sure the cake remained study during travel.
The number 2 was also made earlier as the cake belonged to a princess who was turning 2. I also had to make some seaweeds, plants and seashells at the last minute to act as fillers. The seashells were made with molds.
The birthday party was held in a water park. I am certain the cake felt at home.
