String Aso Oke Cake
This cake was made for the birthday of a grandma. Her daughter wanted something special for her mum’s birthday and special she got. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from aso oke in the past and I was excited to work with this fabric again. Aso oke is a woven fabric worn by ladies in Nigeria. It comes in various, styles, designs, textures and colors.
Each cake tier is a separate flavor. The top tier is a red velvet cake frosted with cream cheese frosting. The middle tier is a coconut sponge cake frosted with cream cheese frosting and toasted coconuts. The bottom tier is a Nigerian cake frosted with vanilla buttercream. All the design work was done with marshmallow fondant.
There are several elements of this cake which I will like to draw your attention to. The first is a fondant stiletto shoe and purse. A tutorial on how to make make stilettos can be found here.
The next is the intricate lace design on the top and bottom tiers. A tutorial on how to achieve this look can be found here.
Next is the string aso oke middle tier which features 180 fondant strings.
