In this tutorial, I will be showing you how I went about making the football theme cake above. This is a two tier cake which as a half football as the top tier. I have another tutorial here on how I made the half football top tier. Please refer to that tutorial for the top tier. Links to recipes used for this cake can be found here.

THE PROCESS:

(1) Make the shell for the top tier using the method explained in the tutorial.

(2) Make the Chelsea logo badge with ruffles around it. I have a tutorial here on how I make my logos. Also make the name tag for the side of the cake.

(3) Next, make the football field topper. This step can be done in advance or while making the cake. I did mine in advance. Color fondant with two shades of green. Roll out the darker green fondant and cut it into a 9 x 13 inch rectangle (The size of the cake). Cut the lighter green fondant into half inch strips. Stick the fondant strips to the rectangle leaving a space of half inch between each strip. Cut out thin white fondant strips and use them to make the markings on the field.

(7) Place dowels in the cake where the top tier would sit. This would support the weight of the top tier.

(8) Place the top tier on the dowels and cover it with the football shell.

(9) Finish the cake by placing fondant grass around the football. To make the grass, cut green strips of fondant and make fringes on one side. Brush the base of the football with a bit of water and wrap the fringed fondant around it. That’s all there is to it. Happy caking!
