In this tutorial, I will be showing you how I made the cream and blue church building cake above. This is the third church building cake tutorial I am doing on this website. The other two tutorials can be found here and here. Place refer to those tutorials as they are more thorough than this one.

Like with my other church building cakes, I make use of my method of dry fondant paneling. You can read more about this method here. Majority of the job on this cake is done while building the panels. The rest of the design process involves sticking the panels on the cake. To see other views of this cake, click here.

THE PROCESS:

(1) Make the panels and dry them. I usually start off by making plain panels and adding designs on them in layers. These panels should be made at least a week before the cake is to be made so they are dry before use.

(2) Make the sponges and frost them in the shape of the building. Like my other church building cakes, I usually start with four 10″ square cake sponges and build up the cake structure by carving, frosting and filling. Stick the frosted cake on the covered cake board.

(3) Begin sticking the panels to the cake starting with the side panels. Use melted white chocolate or thick royal icing as your glue.

(6) Next, work on the landscaping using green fondant.

(7) Complete the design with trees and flowers. That’s all there is to it. Happy Caking!

I love your style of using panels and having these made before hand. It reduces a lot of stress.
    Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks so much for this tutorial, it’s so explicit.

However, will the buttercream (used in frosting the cake) just be enough for sticking the panels to the body of the cake?

Also can royal icing be used in place of white chocolate in sticking the panels to one another?
