Sofia the First Tiara Tutorial
This is a tutorial on how to make a 3D Sofia the First Tiara. This is an easy tiara to make. This tiara can be used as a topper for Sofia the First Cakes like the one below.
TOOLS:
(1) Cylindrical Container (I used an empty Crisco container)
(2) Parchment Paper
(3) Print Out or Drawing of Tiara
(4) X-Acto Knife/Sharp Blade
(5) Fondant Extruder
(6) Paint brush
(7) Rolling Pin
(8) Fondant Wheel/Embosser
EDIBLE COMPONENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Water
(3) Color Paste
(4) Sugar Pearls
NOTES:
(1) This tiara uses a lot of sugar pearls of various sizes. While you can use store bought pearls, you can also make yours using fondant. I have a tutorial here on how to achieve this.
TUTORIAL:
(1) First, look for a picture of the tiara online and print out. Alternatively, place a piece of paper on your monitor and trace out the tiara. Either way, use a pen to extend parts of the tiara which are suspended so they touch the main body of the tiara. This would make the tiara easier to manage/handle while the fondant is still soft. Cut out the printed or drawn tiara to create a template for the fondant.
(2) Cover the sides of your container with parchment paper.
(3) Roll out white fondant. Place the template on it and cut out the tiara using a sharp blade.
(4) Mark the diamond shaped part on top of the tiara using a fondant wheel/embosser
(5) Place the tiara on the wrapped container. It would be easier to manage if the container is placed on its side.
(6) Using an extruder, make fondant strings and outline the edges of the tiara with it.
(7) Cut out small circles and place in areas which would house large sugar pearls.
(8) Stick the sugar or fondant pearls to the tiara.
(9) Leave the tiara to dry this way for about a day before taking out the container. The tiara can then be stuck to the top of a finished cake.
