Fondant Ruffles Flower Tutorial
This tutorial shows you how to make ruffles flowers. These are one of the simplest flowers to make but yet have an amazing effect on cakes. I call them “cheat peony flowers” as they look somewhat like peony flowers. All you need to make these flowers are a few basic tools.
TOOLS:
(1) Fluted Round Fondant or Cookie Cutters of various sizes.
(2) A Paint Brush or Petal Ball Tool
(3) Fondant Flower Drying Mold
(4) Rolling Pin
EDIBLE COMPONENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Color Pastes
(3) Water
PROCEDURE:
(1) These flowers come in a variety of colors. They can also be given an ombre look by using several shades of the same color. To make ombre flowers like those in the picture, start by rolling out white fondant. Use the largest cutter to cut out a fluted circle.
(2) Use the side of a paint brush or a ball tool to thin out and ruffle the edges of the circle.
(3) Place the ruffled fondant on a drying mold.
(4) From here on: (a) form any leftover fondant back into a ball, (b) add a dash of pink color, (c) knead the fondant to incorporate the color, (d) roll out the fondant, (e) cut out a fluted circle with the next smaller sized cutter, (f) ruffle the edges, (g) brush the middle of the ruffled flower in the mold with a bit of water, (h) stick the next ruffle on it, (i) repeat the process of adding color, rolling, cutting and ruffling until you get to the smallest fluted cutter.
(5) Scrunch the smallest ruffled fondant and place it in the middle of the flower.
(6) Leave the flower to dry on the mold. The coloring process can also be reversed be coloring the fondant deep pink at the beginning and adding bits of white fondant to it as you proceed.
(7) When the flowers are dry, brush off any icing sugar residue with a soft blush brush and stick the flowers on your cake.

Gorgeous flowers Terry. Quick question, how do you stick the Carnations to the cake without them falling off
Thanks. I always use melted white chocolate. It dries fact and secures fondant toppers firmly to cakes.
Nice. Keep it up
Thanks Joy.
Beautiful flowers! Thank you, Terry.
