Fondant Open Bible/Book Topper Tutorial
This tutorial shows you how to make a fondant opened bible/book cake topper. This topper can be used in religious style cakes like the Ivory Blossom Cake below. The procedure is quite straightforward and easy to execute.
If your preference is a closed bible cake, click on this link for a tutorial.
TOOLS:
(1) Rolling Pin
(2) Pizza Wheel and Sharp Blade
(3) Paint Brush
(4) Fondant Wheel/Embosser
(5) Paper Towels
EDIBLE COMPONENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Water
(3) Vodka
(4) Color Paste
(5) Gold Luster Dust
PROCEDURE:
(1) Roll out white fondant to about 1/2 inch thickness.
(2) Using a pizza cutter, cut the rolled out fondant into a rectangle.
(3) Using a a sharp blade, carve the top of the fondant to look like an open bible. Do not bother so much if the top surface is rough. It will be covered.
(4) Cut out sheets of white fondant the same size as each half of the open bible. Brush the center of the bible with a bit of water and place the sheets on top of the bible with a sheet of paper towel between each fondant sheet. Leave the bible to dry this way.
(5) When the bible is dry, take out the paper towels. Cut a thin strip of pink (or any color) fondant and place in the middle of the bible to serve as a bible marker/divider. This will also hide the spots where the fondant sheets attach to the bible.
(6) Mix vodka with gold luster dust and brush the sides and edges of the bible.
(7) Place the bible topper on the cake with a piece of rolled fondant underneath the top portion so it is visible. You can also write messages on the bible if you choose to.
