Fondant Antler Tutorial
In this tutorial I would be showing you how to make fondant antlers. These can be used in wildlife or safari themed cakes and cakes such as the Frozen cake below. The antlers were used to represent Sven which is a major character in the animation feature.
TOOLS:
(1) Thick Floral Wires
(2) Paint Brush
EDIBLE INGREDIENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Pink/Ivory Color Paste
(3) Brown Color Dust
(4) Water/Vodka
TUTORIAL:
(1) Color fondant pink or ivory and roll into 2 fat logs, one for each antler.
(2) Roll out the logs to about half an inch thicknees with pointed tips.
(3) Take 2 thick floral wires and curve the top parts into half circles leaving the ends straight. Insert the curved part of the floral wires into the rolled fondant.
(4) Form pieces of leftover fondant into spikes, insert floral wires (or spaghetti) into their bases, brush the antlers with a little water/vodka and insert the floral wires into the antlers randomly. The water/vodka will help the base stick to the antlers.
(5) Finish the look by brushing the base and tips of the antlers and spikes with brown color dust.
(6) Leave the antlers to dry for at least 24 hours (longer if possible) before inserting them into the top of a decorated cake. Happy caking!
