Jewelry Encrusted Cake with Extended Swirl Design
I made this cake for the special birthday party of a friend. I was told to make whatever design I wanted to make and I eventually settled for this design as I had always wanted to make a cake with jewelries. This cake also gave me the opportunity of trying out the extended swirl technique for the first time. I loved the way it came out and it was a hit!
The cake itself is a coconut cake (recipe soon) frosted with coconut buttercream (recipe soon). Most of the design work was done with marshmallow fondant. The rest was achieved with royal icing and sugar pearls.
The top tier is 6 inches high and features jewelries on the left side and a golden rose on top. The design on the top tier was made with a stencil. A tutorial for how to make the rose can be found here. For the jewelries, I have a tutorial here, here and here on how to make some of them. The others are simply large sugar pearls placed on fondant cut using a flower petal cutter.
A detailed tutorial on how the entire cake was made can be found here.
