Fondant Hedgehogs
These cute and adorable hedgehogs look like delicious chocolate masterpieces. They are however made out of fondant. People find them captivating and they add a lot of fun to cakes. This is a tutorial on how to make them.
TOOLS:
(1) Round Cookie Cutter
(2) Paint Brush
(3) Rolling Pin
INGREDIENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Black Sugar Pearls (Optional)
(3) Water
PROCEDURE:
(1) Roll out white fondant into small oval shapes with a pointed end like an egg. Allow these to dry for about 20 minutes so they are easy to handle.
(2) Roll out brown fondant and cut out circles using cookie cutters. The size of the circles will depend on the size of the oval shaped bodies.
(3) Brush half of the oval shaped bodies with water and drape the brown circles over them covering the back of the hedgehogs. Cut off excess brown fondant if need be to perfect draping.
(4) Using the end of a paint brush, make 3 holes in front of the hedgehogs for the eyes and nose.
(5) Roll out small black fondant balls and use for the eyes. You can use larger fondant balls for the nose or black sugar pearls. These should be glued to the face using little water.
(6) This part needs some (a lot?) of patience and precision. Cut out tiny pieces of brown fondant and roll into spears between your fingers. You can add in a few white spears for variety.
(7) Using some water, stick these spears to part of the brown portion of the hedgehogs. The amount of spears you use will depend on how full you want them to be. Start from the back and work your way to the front so the spears overlap each other. Allow hedgehogs to dry before using.
