Housewarming Cake
A family just bought a new house and were inviting friends over for a housewarming party. I was asked to make a cake for the occasion and was a bit confused and intimidated by the request as I had never made one before. Fears aside, I was able to come up with a cake that was loved by all the guests.
This cake is a French vanilla sponge. The sides were made by draping and folding very thin fondant together. I chose the green color as portions of the house were painted green. This was the second time I was using this drape and fold technique. The first time was for a set of twin scroll cakes ordered by a church.
The top of the cake was made by manipulating fondant to look like paper. I decided to color the edges with pink pearl dust to make the sheet stand out. It was not easy getting the top end of the sheet to remain coiled and suspended, but in the end, I was able to achieve just that.
At the last minute, I chose to put a bouquet of flowers at the base of the sheet to add color and character to the cake.
The words on the cake were chosen to reflect the event that was being celebrated.
I look forward to making other cakes for unique events.
