Fondant 2D Car Tutorial
This is a tutorial on how to make 2D Cars. These cars can be used as cake toppers or other decorative elements of cakes like I did with the Cars Cake below. For a more detailed post on how to make 2D images, click here.
TOOLS:
(1) Simple Car Sketch or Printout
(2) Sharp Blade or X-Acto Knife
(3) Rolling Pin
(4) Paint Brush
(5) Small Circle Cutter
EDIBLE COMPONENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Color Paste
(3) Water
(4) Vodka
(5) Corn Syrup
PROCEDURE:
(1) Sketch out a car or print a picture from the net. Cut it out to make your stencil.
(2) Roll out fondant and use the stencil to cut out the shape of the car. It is best to allow the fondant air dry before cutting in order to get sharp edges.
(3) Mix a 50/50 mixture of vodka and corn syrup and brush the body of the car to make it glossy.
(4) Begin to cut out the other elements of the car and stick to the body starting with the windows. Use water as your gluing agent. If the vodka/corn syrup mixture is still wet, water would not be necessary.
(5) Make the headlights and tiers using circular cutters like the base of pipping tips.
(6) Leave the cars to dry before sticking to the body of your cake.
Thanks for the tutorial. It is very good.
You are welcome.
Thanks you Sir for a wonderful tips. What else can be added to the corn syrup to make the findant glossy as I wouldn’t want to use vodka?
You are welcome. I really have no idea.
You can just steam the fondant when you are done making the piece. It gives it ashine
Thanks.
