Fondant Captain America Shield Tutorial
This is a tutorial on how to make a Captain America shield like the one above. This is an easy cake topper made with a variety of cutters. It was used as an element on the Avengers Cake below.
TOOLS:
(1) Circle Cookie Cutters of Various Sizes
(2) A Small Star Cutter
(3) A Ball Pan or any other Spherical Object
(4) Paint Brush
(5) Rolling Pin
EDIBLE COMPONENTS:
(1) Fondant
(2) Water
(3) Corn Syrup
(4) Vodka
(5) Food Color
PROCEDURE:
(1) Color and roll out red, royal blue and light grey fondant. Using round cookie cutters, cut out a large red circle and a smaller grey circle. Use a smaller round cutter to cut out the middle of the grey circle to create a ring. Cut out a small royal blue circle and a small grey star which fits into the circle.
(2) Using a bit of water, stick all the parts together.
(3) Dust your ball pan with a bit of icing sugar and place the shield on it. Leave it this way to dry.
(4) When the shield is dry, mix a 50/50 mixture of corn syrup and vodka and brush the shield working with one color at a time so as not to stain the other colors. Leave the shield to dry. The corn syrup and vodka mixture will make the shield glossy.
(5) You can now stick the shield to your decorated cake. For a complete tutorial on how this cake was made, click here.
