This is a tutorial on how I made the Gold and Royal Blue cake above. This is a very easy cake to make that I doubt it needs a tutorial. Once the crown has been made, the rest is a walk in the park. To see more of this cake, click here.

THE PROCESS:

(1) First, make the crown. You can find a tutorial for this here.

(2) Next, drape the bottom tier with cream fondant and stick it to a covered cake board.

(3) Next, cut out 1 inch strips of royal blue fondant and stick them to the bottom tier. Leave a 2 inch gap between inch strip. I would advice that you drape the top tier with the royal blue fondant first and make the strips out of leftover fondant. To achieve royal blue color, color your fondant using Wilton Royal Blue color a day earlier and allow it to sit overnight. The blue color would darken as the fondant sits. This rule also applies to coloring red and black fondant.

(4) Place dowels in the bottom tier and stack the top tier on it.

(5) Cover the base of the top and bottom tiers with ivory fondant. On the bottom tier, cut out 2 inch strips of ivory fondant and cover the gaps between the royal blue strips. This will help you avoid bumps at the base.

(6) Next, make the bow and stick it to the base of the bottom tier. A tutorial on how I make my bows can be found here.

(7) Finish the cake by painting the ivory details with gold luster dust mixed with vodka. Stick the crown on the top tier and a name tag on the bottom tier. That’s all there is to it. Happy caking!
